How a Warwickshire teacher is using Lego like blocks to help children and young people build emotional well-being alongside engineering skills.

Listen now!

Maninder Kaur Laxhman has always had a passion for teaching but after twenty years in the job she decided the classroom wasn’t for her.

Now she runs the Warwick Franchise of Young Engineers which uses her background in IT to introduce children and young adults to engineering and technology skills using Lego like kits in after school and holiday clubs.

But it is much more than that. For Maninder, the blocks are simply a stepping stone for her pupils to learn how to build resilience and emotional wellbeing.

Having worked in a wide range of educational settings, including young offenders’ institutes, she knows the importance of social emotional learning when developing new skills.

She believes Lego has a lot to teach us, whether it is problem solving, communication , confidence, team working and confidence.

In this episode of From the Midlands, Maninder explains why she believes Lego is Life.
