Why a local community turned to the big screen to save its town

Listen now!

When a small town in the Midlands felt lost, its community decided to take an unusual route to recover. Like many towns, Wellington in Shropshire had seen shops and banks abandon its town centre leaving a lack of local facilities.

But a group of local residents decided to take matters into their own hands and raise funds for a local cinema and community hub called the Wellington Orbit. While the move may have been seen as risky in these days of streaming, it gave local residents the boost they needed.

In this episode of From the Midlands we discover how the local community kept faith with the project and make a difference. For further details on Wellington Orbit visit https://wellingtonorbit.co.uk/
