How a Birmingham entrepreneur’s boot camps are getting more black women into the tech industry

Listen now!

Oyin Adebayo is on a mission. Fewer than two per cent of the tech industry in the UK is made up of black women. The economics graduate knew the numbers didn’t add up, so she decided to do something about it.

The Birmingham entrepreneur started the Niyo Group of companies to make that change. It’s business is about empowering black women to be involved in building products and services which make advances and shape our world for the better.

But first she had to find a way to get more black women trained up in software and hardware engineering. With local support, Oyin set up online boot camps to run training courses to provide black women with the qualifications they need to take their place in an industry where so few are represented.

But it’s not stopping there as Oyin explains.
